What these numbers mean: Higher margins and returns generally indicate a business that converts sales and capital into profit efficiently, with pricing power and cost discipline. A net margin near 28% is high for almost any industry. For ROIC specifically, the number that matters most is the comparison against a company’s cost of capital (WACC) — ROIC above WACC indicates the company is creating economic value rather than just generating an accounting profit.
